New Delhi, July 10 -- Actor Deepika Padukone and Imtiaz Ali first worked together in Love Aaj Kal in 2009. Now, as the shoot of their next project together (that also stars Ranbir Kapoor) starts in France, Deepika, 28, opens up about the film and her equation with Imtiaz.
Are you really nervous about working with Imtiaz and Ranbir again, as the buzz goes? I don't think I've said that anywhere. But I'm definitely excited. I'm working with Imtiaz for the second time, and with Ranbir, for the third (after Bachna Ae Haseeno, 2008, and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, 2013).
What kind of equation do you share with Imtiaz? I've interacted with him a lot, not always in professional capacity, but more as a friend. He understands me really well. He only suggested that I do Cocktail (2012) and take up Veronica's (Deepika's character) part. Imtiaz gives me a sense that he knows me better than even I do. It's great for directors to have that kind of understanding of their actors.
Have things changed since you last collaborated with him? I was new back then. It's been five years now and we've both evolved. My understanding of the craft is different today, and he's also done two-three films since Love Aaj Kal.
Some directors you've worked with - Imtiaz, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Farah Khan - are working with you again in upcoming films. I hope it's coming from a place of comfort, and, more importantly, trust. I'm fortunate. I get to work with some of the best directors in Bollywood, not just once, but multiple times.
