Mumbai, Sept. 13 -- On September 15, Celina Jaitly will be performing at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre in New York City, USA, for a special United Nations benefit concert with singers Sting and Patti LuPone.
She believes that every effort of hers will benefit the LGBT community. And, interestingly, the actor and LGBT activist credits Bollywood actor Imran Khan for encouraging her to keep working for the cause.
"Imran has been very supportive. He has played an important role in launching campaigns for the United Nations in India. He believes in the initiative, and I am happy that there is a man, a star, who has stood up for a cause like this. His encouragement for my work keeps me going," says Celina.
Talking about the upcoming concert, titled Uprising Of Love: A Benefit Concert For Global Equality, she says, "Sting, Patti LuPone and I will be performing, and this will be my first stage performance. I hope the concert helps generate more awareness about equal rights for the LGBT community."
Celina, who is a former Miss India and a runner-up at the Miss Universe contest, wants more pageant winners to contribute to such causes. "The titles that you win should be used for the betterment of society. It would be great if more and more winners associate themselves with different causes," says Celina.
