Mumbai, June 24 -- In his career spanning 25 odd years, Salman Khan has never locked lips with an actress on the big screen. Even his contemporaries - such as Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn - have done so sparingly.
But that doesn't seem to be the norm with the new batch of talent in Bollywood. These young actors, some of whom are only a few films old, have no issues kissing their co-stars (sometimes multiple times) if the script demands it.
While Arjun Kapoor kissed Alia Bhatt in 2 States, Varun and Alia will share a similar moment in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania. Similarly, Sushant Singh Rajput and Parineeti Chopra locked lips multiple times in Shuddh Desi Romance (2013). Others like Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor (in Aashiqui 2), and Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonam Kapoor (in Bewakoofiyaan) have also kissed in their films.
While discussing the trend some time back, film-maker Karan Johar had said at a press conference, "It's great [that] the children of the new generation are kissing on screen. It's the new ethos, but senior actors didn't do this... kissing scenes help get [a strong] opening and people also like to see them...."
But are these scenes meant to be publicity stunts? Arjun disagrees, saying, "If someone asks you about the kiss, you will answer the question. So I did. Alia (his co-star) was asked as well, and she also answered it. It was that question that made it look like we had done the kissing scene for publicity, which was never the case."
