What happened at the IPL 2015 Opening Ceremony

Clearly, a lot happened.

Anushka, who is Virat Kohli’s girlfriend and faced a lot of criticism when India lost the Cricket World Cup this year, shook some ass.

Shahrukh Khan was missing from the event and replaced by Saif Ali Khan to host the ceremony.

Saif shared some awkward silences with Shahid Kapoor, and yet had to ask the crowd to give it up for Shahid Kapoor after his performance, (and even congratulated him for his upcoming marriage when they bumped into each other).

Here’s everything you need to know about last night’s event (and why it was SUPER FLOP)!

Firstly, there were a lot, and we mean, a lot of bloopers. Saif forgot his lines and Rohit Sharma joined him on stage for some major fumbling. Poor Saif was compared to SRK, and didn’t manage to live up to the expectations as the host of an IPL opener. While Shahrukh’s confidence and performance is always fun, Saif was struggling with his lines.

But the most popular blooper was Shahid, the epic dancer of Bollywood, forgot his dance steps as he performed in Mithoon’s I am a Disco Dancer. He even crashed his bike! Most of the performance, he still rocked though.

After Shahid’s dhamakedaar (literally) performance, there was Anushka and Hrithik’s lame choice of songs that took over the event. Their songs were way too old and boring! While Anushka danced on songs of Ladies Vs. Ricky Bahl (why oh why???) Hrithik went ahead with Kaho Na Pyar Hai, Koi Mil Gaya and Dhoom 2 (what!!!) which almost killed the crowd from overdose.
At least Hrithik had some energy and style when dancing those songs, but Anushka’s performance missed everything that a performance needs to have! It was actually a big, long yawn.

As for Farhan Akhtar’s band performance, his otherwise very sexy voice just didn’t match well with the cracking sound system.

Overall, this whole act was extremely disappointing, and fans showed hate on social media. Someone even tweeted that a mehendi ceremony of an Indian wedding is more entertaining! Haha! Now that’s definitely wit and humor that Saif should even attempt while hosting.

A few more tweets where the fans have expressed their frustration are: "This may sound harsh, but Saif Ali Khan seems quite lost hosting this ceremony", "#ThankYouSaif for spoiling such a great event like #IPLOpeningCeremony", “And finally the worst opening ceremony in global sports is over! *sighofrelief* #IPLOpeningCeremony"
