Is Phillauri inspired from Corpse Bride?

By HT

Anushka Sharma revealed the first trailer of her upcoming film Phillauri on Monday, and it’s in the news since then.

Initially for its fun trailer, and now for its striking similarity with Hollywood director Tim Burton’s 2005 animated film Corpse Bride.

So, does Phillauri look like a copy of Corpse Bride? No.

Can it be inspired from Corpse Bride? Yes.

Actually, both the films have an eery similarity when it comes to the idea. Phillauri is about an NRI guy, played by Suraj Sharma, who is ‘manglik’. To combat this problem, he is asked to marry a tree first.

This tree is also the home of Shashi (Anushka Sharma), a friendly ghost, who insists that Suraj accept her as his bride. Then the story goes into the flashback where Shashi is in love with a folk singer, played by Diljit Dosanjh.

Now, Corpse Bride is about a guy Victor (Voiced by Johnny Depp), who develops cold feet right before his marriage. He runs away from the ceremony towards the nearby jungle. There he slips and accidentally puts the ring to a tree, which is also the abode of a ghost Emily (Helena Bonham Carter), who was murdered in her previous life.

The trailer of Phillauri doesn’t reveal any other similarities, but even this much is enough to cast apprehensions about its originality.

Directed by Anshai Lal, Phillauri will hit the screens on March 24, 2017.
