Bollywood Celebs: Rip Madiba!

Mumbai, Dec. 7 -- On Friday, December 6, as news about Nelson Mandela's demise spread, the world came together to mourn and reminisce the life of the former South African president. He was 95. In his home country, there was an outpouring of grief at the loss of a man considered by many as the father of the nation. While international celebs expressed their feelings on social media, Bollywood grieved as well.

Amitabh Bachchan chose to share his personal memories on Twitter. Film-maker Mahesh Bhatt and actor Anil Kapoor shared their experiences with us.

Anil Kapoor: "I met Nelson Mandela when I was in South Africa shooting for my film, Gandhi: My Father (2007). It was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I discussed the story of my film with him and I think he could relate to it as a father. He was so full of life. And yes, I remember he was very tall."

Mahesh Bhatt: "In 1997, I was in South Africa and got an opportunity to meet him. He was a Gandhian in spirit, flesh and blood. That was the time when right-wing politics was yet to take centre stage and I asked what advice he'd like to give India. He said, "It would be preposterous for me to advise. India is the mother of all civilisations. Just live Gandhi's words."
