I share a special bond with my songs, says Amaal Mallik

Mumbai, Aug. 5 -- After winning several awards for his various projects in 2015, music composer Amaal Mallik has continued the successful streak even this year.

While the songs of Airlift were liked by many, the composer also impressed music aficionados with the soundtrack of Sanam Re. What also made 2016 fruitful for him was the song 'Kar gayi chull' from Kapoor & Sons. He collaborated with lyricist Kumaar and rapper Badshah for the film's version of the track.

Amaal even composed music for Baaghi (the song 'Sab tera' did well) and Azhar ('Bol do na zara' topped the music charts). "Working on 'Sab tera' was fun, as I made Armaan (Malik; singer and brother) and Shraddha (Kapoor; actor) come together for it. They sang really well. Shraddha won my heart with her voice," says Amaal, adding, "I believe it is tough for an actor's singing voice to suit his or her face. But when she hummed the first line, I looked at Sabbir (Khan; director of Baaghi) sir, and said, 'This is it'."

Talking about his hit track 'Salamat' from Sarbjit, he says, "It was a heart-wrenching song. We used a lot of Indian instruments for it, including the mandolin, sarangi and flute," he says.

Amaal says choosing singers for his song is an organic process for him. "I share a special bond with every track I make. My songs decide the singer, not me," he says.

Among his upcoming projects, Amaal is excited about the music of Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif 's upcoming movie. "The song 'Sau aasmaan' is out this week. It will give a new perspective to romance in Bollywood. Working on the film's soundtrack was a Herculean task. It was challenging because its producers - Karan Johar, Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar - have had great music in their films. But Nitya Mehra (director) made the experience easy for me," says Amaal, who is also working on the music for a biopic on MS Dhoni, and for the sequel to Force (2011).
