Mumbai, March 4 -- Even though his last release, Haider (2014), got him immense critical appreciation, actor Shahid Kapoor didn't go on a film-signing spree after that. The only two projects he officially announced were filmmaker Vikas Bahl's movie with Alia Bhatt, and director Abhishek Chaubey's next.

The actor reasons that unlike his initial days in Bollywood, he now feels the need to take it easy.

"There was a time when I used to feel like I could go from one film to another. But over the last couple of years, I've started to realise that I don't think I an do that anymore. Maybe a certain set of actors can, but I can't immediately make the switch," says Shahid.

At the moment, he is concentrating on Vikas's film, but reveals that it was not easy to get the movie started initially because of lack of funds.

"In the beginning, when we started working on the film, nobody gave us the budget for it because Vikas had written an expensive film. It had to be shot in Europe and artistes had to be flown from India. Plus back then, neither Haider, nor Alia's 2014 films or Vikas's Queen (2013) had released. Basically, hum sab 'okay type' ke log the (we were average kind of people)," he says.

But things took a 360 degree turn for all three of them post the release of their respective films. As a result, things got rolling on their current project.

"Last year was amazing for Vikas. Everyone felt that Queen was the best film of the year. For Alia, it was an absolutely outstanding year. She has really come into her own. And then Haider happened, and it's been a great film for me as an actor. So, we've been bumping into each other at awards functions and it feels amazing."
