Mumbai, March 11 -- It's one of the most prestigious B-schools in the country and, till date, no Bollywood film has been shot at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) campus.
Now, the Arjun Kapoor, Alia Bhattstarrer 2 States, has become the first project to be shot at the school. "Before we approached the institute, everyone said it was impossible to get permission to shoot there. Since the book was based in IIM-A and the writer (Chetan Bhagat, on whose novel of the same name the film is based on) was an alumnus, it would have been impossible to show any other place and claim it to be IIM-A. We had to stay true to the book as much as we could," says an insider.
Then started the process of getting the final go-ahead. "It took a while to convince the professors. We submitted the script, made changes to accommodate their suggestions and, finally, the permission came through. We wouldn't have been able to depict the institute's renowned history and architecture in a different setting. It is so vast that it would take maybe months to capture the full glory of the campus," adds the insider.
When contacted, director Abhishek Varman confirms, "Shooting in IIM-A was actually a very good experience. The faculty was really helpful. It was also nice to be able to portray the college life in the very campus where Krish and Ananya actually meet in the book. And yes, this is the first time they have let anyone shoot on their campus."
