Mumbai, July 29 -- Akshay Kumar has been part of the Hindi film industry for over two decades. And after having done films in several genres, the actor now hopes that Bollywood will produce more movies that celebrate the relationships humans share with their pets or animals in general.
"I have three dogs at home and I share a beautiful relationship with them. When my son, Aarav, was born, I gifted him a dog; my father did the same for me when I was growing up," says Akshay, adding, "It's very important to have pets around you in your growing years. They teach you a lot about loyalty, responsibility, unconditional love and respect. It has been so long since the industry saw a film that defines the relationship a person shares with an animal."
Talking about the scope of such films, while citing Hollywood's example, Akshay adds, "Hollywood releases at least four such films a year, and they all do well. They connect with the audience. Even in Bollywood, way back, films such as Haathi Mere Saathi (1971) and Teri Meherbaniyan (1985), have been made and they all did very well. I hope the industry explores this genre further."
