Mumbai, April 5 -- Rajkumar Hirani's PK (2014), which starred Aamir Khan, was one of the biggest hits of last year. And just like their previous collaboration, 3 Idiots (2009), which broke several records, this one has also managed to break a few.
PK is still running in some B and C centres, which has helped it surpass the ticket sales of 3 Idiots. A source close to Raju reveals, "Over the last few years, no one has been able to touch the ticket sales of 3 Idiots. Till now, that was the only film to have sold 3 crore tickets. Now, PK has managed to sell 3.5 cr tickets, which is a whopping rise of 50 lakh tickets - something the makers had not imagined."
The film-maker is believed to be overwhelmed by the response, since PK is a social message-oriented film that delved into the subject of religion.
When we contacted Raju, he said, "It's a great feeling when two films very close to your heart get such appreciation from the audience. As for this one, I'm glad that people liked the concept; it was unusual. Moreover, I'm happy that even in the interiors of the country, people have liked this movie. I'm glad for everyone associated with the film as each person has worked very hard."
