Bollywood: White-washed!

By Hindustan Times

Mumbai, May 8 -- Bollywood's been white-washed. From newly-wed Lara Dutta'd tiered gown to Mallika Sherawat's Shahab Durazi red carpet appearance, the ladies of Bollywood are leaving their little black dresses tucked away in their closets and opting for the summer friendly colour instead.

Says Aparna Badlani of city store Zoya, "Half my store is white at the moment, and we have all-white collections from designers like Savio Jon, Arjun Saluja, Priyadarshini Rao and Pero." Badlani gives her vote of approval to wearing a simple white draped dress, which brings back the Grecian old-world feel.

"James Ferreria has created some beautiful toga-style draped dresses which are perfect for evening occasions," she opines. Meghna Bhalla, junior fashion editor, Harper's Bazaar, adds, "White has replaced black as the colour of choice for soirees. Though it doesn't have that slimming effect, it's such a pleasing colour that you shouldn't forgo the chance to wear it."

She recommends pairing white on white for an eye-catching look. "Wearing white on white is a big trend. You can carry a white linen jacket to be worn over a similar coloured dress, or even just a light cardigan or wrap for the evening. Just add some chunky statement jewellery to it for a party look," she says.
