Bollywood stars to clash at box ofice!

Bollywood’s A-list brigade will not say ‘Thank God It’s Friday’ too often this year. Reason? 2013 is expected to see some of the biggest stars clash at the box office, with their films releasing on the same day. The biggest clash will be on August 8, when Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express will release with Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan starrer Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Again. Some other big ticket clashes include Shahid Kapoor’s Phata Poster Nikla Hero and Prakash Jha’s Kareena Kapoor, Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn starrer Satyagraha on August 23.

Trade experts say that these clashes mean loss of business for both the films. “Whenever two big films release together, their individual business is bound to get affected adversely. Today filmmakers have a lot of ego and that is also a reason for these clashes. Many of them want to encash on holidays,” says trade analyst Vikas Mohan. Filmmakers, however, don’t feel the pressure. “The Eid weekend can easily absorb two big films and there is an Independence Day holiday the following weekend,” says Tanuj Garg of Balaji, whose film Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai Again will clash with Chennai Express.

But many are playing safe. The makers of Sonam Kapoor’s Raanjhanna have advanced the release date by a week to avoid a clash with Vidya Balan’s Ghanchakkar.
