MUMBAI, Oct. 21 -- The verdict is out! Amitabh Bachchan's Kaun Banega Crorepati on Sony Entertainment has received an average 5.3 TVRs (TV ratings) over the first week. The show opened with 6.2 points, pushing the channel to the No 3 spot once again with 221 points. Earlier in the year, Priyanka Chopra's Khatron Ke Khiladi 3 flagged off with 5.5 TVRs., averaging 4.4 in the first week.

Salman Khan's Bigg Boss 4 opened with 4.8 points, settling down to 3.2 over the next six days. This week, the number is down to 2.3.

Akshay Kumar's MasterChef India premiered on Star Plus last Saturday with 2.6 TVRs. Undoubtedly, a disappointing beginning for the Khiladi who's playing a new role on TV with pots and pans. Among all these heavyweights, there's also Rakhi Sawant whose courtroom drama, Rakhi Ka Insaaf, was unveiled more quietly on Imagine. But Sawant's fiery off-screen persona has earned it 2 points straightaway.

Ajit Thakur, business head and executive vice president, Sony Entertainment, is upbeat about KBC4 ratings "A newspaper had sparked off a debate over which celebrity show would be watched more, this settles it. The ratings issued by TAM India have proved that there is only one winner, Amitabh Bachchan. He's brought families back together in the living room. The channel has jumped 48 points within the first week." Star Plus, the channel leading the pack of Hindi general entertainment channels this week with 361 points, didn't want to comment. But Ashwini Khandekar, assistant manager, TAM India, reiterates that the opening episode ratings are 2.6.

Ashwini Yardi, head of programming, Colors, insists that Bigg Boss 4 that netted in more than 60.5 million viewers in its first week, has matched their expectations. "Even though the opening ratings have come down, it's evident that viewers have accepted Salman Khan as the new host. But we don't want to over-emphasise or underplay our content just to keep up with the competition," she retorts.

Nikhil Madhok of Imagine is celebrating the success of his once-a-week show. "The ratings show that Rakhi has a following across centers. A 2-point opening for a show in the 10 pm slot is a good start," he exults.

Amitabh Bachchan who has returned to Kaun Banega Crorepati after six years, doesn't understand the TRP game: "I just know channels compete for them and it's their way of mapping competition," he says. "So, I'd like to congratulate everyone associated with the show, including the contestants and the crew. KBC is not about me, it's about a common man and his dreams. They make the show what it is!"
