His last screen appearance was alongside Priyanka Chopra in his debut film, 7 Khoon Maaf (2011). Since then, Naseeruddin Shah’s younger son, Vivaan, has been away from the big screen. And even as he looks set to bag Farah Khan’s Happy New Year (the announcement is due in a few days), we have learnt that the 23-year-old actor is confirmed to appear in Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet (BV), which stars Ranbir Kapoor and Anushka Sharma.
“Vivaan will play Anushka’s driver and have a powerful presence throughout the film. Since he fits the role perfectly, he was called for auditions a while back. And he impressed everyone, including Anurag, with his confident screen test. Anurag finalised him immediately after going through the (audition) tape,” says an insider. Interestingly, Naseer was also supposed to star in BV. Apparently, Anurag was keen to have him play the villain and had offered the role to him, but the veteran actor took too much time to revert. The part finally went to Karan Johar, who makes a full-fledged acting debut in the film.
Meanwhile, work on BV has finally started. Anurag is already in Sri Lanka to scout for locations and finish other pre-production work. “Vivaan won’t be a part of the first schedule. Since most of his scenes are with Anushka, he’ll join the crew in a month’s time. Anurag has already had a few workshops and script sessions with him,” adds the insider. Despite repeated attempts, Vivaan and Anurag couldn’t be reached for a comment.
