All we want is a healthy child: Abhishek Bachchan

As D-day nears, father-to-be Abhishek Bachchan is super excited about the child the whole world seems to be waiting for, ever since ‘Paa’ Amitabh posted a tweet announcing Aishwarya’s pregnancy. He is also equally exasperated over media speculations revolving around Baby B.

Dismissing a recent report about Aishwarya opting for a C-section, so the baby could arrive on the auspicious date of 11.11.11, he scoffs, “It’s a great piece of fictional writing. It’s ridiculous to suggest that I’d induce my wife to go through a Caesarean so our baby would be born on a particular day. I just want her to have a healthy, safe and as comfortable a delivery as possible. Whenever God decides our baby is to be born, we’ll welcome him or her with open arms. We still don’t know if it’s a girl or a boy, all we want is a healthy child. And all this about my wife carrying twins is completely untrue.”

The aggrieved star goes on to refute rumours about ‘pundits’ being consulted and rituals being performed to ensure all is well. “I don’t believe in numerology or astrology,” asserts the actor, who is still upset over some reports that appeared prior to his marriage; one of them insisted that Aishwarya had been married to a tree first, to ward off the ill effects of being a ‘manglik’. “As my father pointed out, if this was true, would someone please show us this tree too.’ I’m fighting that out in court.”

After being away on long outdoor shoots, Abhishek is back home in Mumbai to be with his wife in her final trimester. He’s been dubbing for his next film, Players, the official remake of the Hollywood movie The Italian Job. It will be the first big release of 2012. The film’s first trailer was unveiled on Thursday and Abhishek admitted that it left his blood pumping.

“One of the reasons I accepted the film was for the directors Abbas-Mustaan. The other, because I had grown up watching and loving the original,” says Abhishek, admitting he still remembers Michael Caine’s lines. “But the trailer doesn’t remind you of The Italian Job, it promises a ‘masala’ Hindi movie with. This is an exciting time in my life.”
