All 'set' for fashion week!

Mumbai, April 6 -- Bollywood might not be an attraction at this year's Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week (WIFW), but designers are finding several innovative ways to up the glam quotient. The runway sets are prepared to get a chic and stylish twist as everyone is finding ways to make their show stand out with some drama.

"Our collection has a very empowered rock-chic vibe, so the set will match that. We'll have giant speakers scattered in the background. It's very much like a pop video," says designer Nikhil Mehra. Manish Malhotra, who will show at WIFW after a long gap is planning a regal set for his Kashmir-inspired collection. "My collection has a lot of Kashmiri work, so the set will have influences of traditional Kashmiri structures," he says.

His set is being specially done up by Mumbai-based set designer Bijon Das Gupta. "We're using traditional Kashmiri jaali works and motifs as prints for the background. The plan is to mirror the traditional influences on the clothes," says Das Gupta.

Tarun Tahiliani's show is set to be as opulent as his creations. "We've tried to create a jungle. There are trees made out of waste metal; the show is based on a Chinese theme," says Vidur Bharadwaj of 3 C Company, which will partner Tahiliani for the show.

Word has it that the Abraham & Thakore show will use lights to create a dramatic setting. So, it's not all in the clothes, after all!
