Akhil Kapur: 'I still love to direct'

Mumbai, Nov. 17 -- Vinod Khanna's nephew Akhil Kapur wanted to make it in the industry on his own. But he admits that his cousin Akshay Khanna helped him learn the ways of Bollywood.

"I used to go with "I used to go with Akshay to his shoots just to be around the sets," says Kapur, who will now be seen in director Lovely Singh's Tutak Tootak Tutiyan, opposite Govinda's daughter Narmada Ahuja. He says, "His attitude towards work is worth absorbing,"

Trained in acting and filmmaking from the New York Film Institute, Kapur's first choice has always been direction. But acting, he insists, is in his genes, since he has grown up among actors.

"I was inclined towards filmmaking, but when I went to acting school, I somehow developed a keen interest in that," he says.

Even though he hails from a star family, life wasn't easy for Kapur. "I decided to act first and direct later. I made a portfolio, went for some auditions, but things were not happening. It had almost been two and a half years. Then I took dancing and diction lessons," says Kapur.

His dream to be a director, however, hasn't faded away. It has only been put on the backburner. "I still love to direct. I'm not much of a writer, but I have scribbled ideas... almost a 100 like that actually," says the 25-year-old, who initially worked as an intern on films like Salaam-E-Ishq (2007) and Race (2008). He even assisted director Reema Kagti on Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd (2007).
