Abhay goes back to his Punjabi roots!

Mumbai, Oct. 22 -- Actor Abhay Deol may not be a great believer in the institution of marriage, but for his latest outing, the actor is spending a lot of time attending weddings.

Preparing for his upcoming zom-com (zombie comedy), Rock The Shaadi, the actor is said to be doing the rounds of many mandaps to get the nuances of his role right.

A spokesperson of the film reveals, "Abhay will attend some weddings to perfect his role as a Punjabi munda (boy) in Rock The Shaadi." Directed by Navdeep Singh of Manorama Six Feet Under fame, the film has a typical Punjabi wedding as its backdrop and will see Abhay star opposite Genelia D'Souza. It is said that 70 per cent of the film will be shot in and around a wedding mandap. So taking a cue from big, fat Punjabi weddings, the actor has been visiting family functions regularly.

Abhay, since his acting debut with Socha Na Tha (2005), has created a niche for himself as an intense actor with films like Ek Chalis Ki Last Local (2007), Manorama Six Feet Under (2007) and Dev D (2009) under his belt. And while his most recent commercial film, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, got the cash registers ringing at the box office, the actor, unlike his Deol brothers has not explored the comedy territory yet.

So for his upcoming laugh riot, Abhay is making sure he doesn't leave any stone unturned and is bringing out the real Punjabi in him. "But it wouldn't really be a task for him as its already in its genes," adds the spokesperson about the Punjabi actor. The film is expected to release next year.
