New Delhi, May 13 -- Legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray's cult classic film Charulata (1964) will be shown at the forthcoming Cannes Film Festival, this year.
Interestingly, almost 50 years back, this film, based on Tagore's novel Nashtanirh, starring veteran Bengali actor Madhabi Mukherjee in the lead alongside Ray's pet actor Soumitra Chatterjee, was rejected from Cannes in 1965.
The film that deals with a lonely wife and her attraction towards her brother-in-law, later went on to bag the Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival in the same year, and the Golden Lotus Award at the National Film Awards.
Ray's son, Sandip Ray feels it's a proud moment for the family and Indian Cinema as a whole. "We are all very excited. It's a great piece of news and dad would have been very happy to know this
