While others might tom-tom about a single hit, Asin has seen tremendous success with four films in three years crossing the coveted Rs. 100 cr mark at the box office. Aamir Khan’s Ghajni (2008), Salman Khan’s Ready (2011) and the recent comic caper Housefull 2 starring Akshay Kumar along with her have all been declared hits.
Understandably so, Asin is on cloud nine. The elated actor says, “I’m happy now, but my first reaction was that of relief. The success of Housefull 2 reiterated the fact that the kind of films I have been part of have worked out for the best. I have delivered as per the expectations of my producers and audience.”
Asin claims that when she learnt that she has been part of three films that have collectively made approximately made Rs. 300 cr over three years, she was amazed. “These are baby steps for me as I have been a part of Hindi films for just four years as compared to others who have been here longer. Being part of three out of the top ten Rs. 100 cr movies is an achievement for me. I feel accepted as a part of mainstream Bollywood.”
She also admits that success allows you to take on bigger risks career-wise. “After Ready and Housefull 2, people ask me if I have developed an affinity to comedy films. I feel that at this point in my career, I want to be a part of entertaining films. Though I’m looking at doing a variety of substantial roles, I don’t want to do movies for a niche audience.”
Asin, whose next will be Bol Bachchan opposite Ajay Devgn, says she likes keeping a low profile. She “It is not in my nature to tell the world about my hits. The industry is already aware of the figures and the audience only wants to watch entertaining movies.”
